family reunion
arrived at blue bend a day early to secure a creekside spot. hiked the loop trail. amazing how high you climb without realizing it via switchbacks. matt and family arrived the next morning, followed by mom and dad. we had our own little tent city at site #19. minnows, fishing, swimming, mom's happy feet, matt's whopper, skipping rocks, swinging the bridge, marshmallows.
carderock with the clan
james and I introduced his family to climbing on kindergarten and the nose. lots of smiles and quality time spent out of comfort zones.
road trip via paradise
trekked to the farm with nicholas and thomas after a quick stop at blue bend for lunch, a swim and some crawdadding. saw a little snake under one rock. viewed the deep blue with goggles. fishing, horses, worm catching at the farm. james met us for a whitewater trip down the upper new in duckies. jump rock. surprise rapid. rain held off until we were on the bus. day captured nicely on video. super-duper movie night with tasty treats and sky captain.
wonka date
james and I saw "charlie and the chocolate factory" and were pleasantly surprised. being a huge fan of the book and original movie, I was prepared for disappointment. I think he did a great job coming out of gene wilder's vast shadow and created his own version of the candyman. there were a couple lines I could've done without - one about popping pimples, yuck. the visuals were fantastic and the updated oompa-loompas rocked. the casting of the kids was dead on too. as each scene played, I compared it to the version in my head and it seems they took the good stuff from the original movie mixed in details from the book and added a little movie magic for just the right balance of sweetness and dahl/burton creepiness.
