thanks
enjoyed two delicious thankgsiving feasts this year. one at work and one with joy and her family. dishes included ham (not BBQ turkey), turkey, mac & cheese, green beans, rolls, cranberry/orange relish, cauliflower/brussel sprouts and pies galore.
games
had a fun renegade meetup with cribbage and scrabble folks at dc bread & brew and then books-a-million in dupont circle.
sunflower
finally tried the sunflower restaurant in seven corners. had the mushroom platter first then general tso's special. both scrumptious. already planning my next visit. rivals the grit in vegetarian tastiness.
allergies
some surprises in the scratch testing. happy to find a good doctor who takes the time to sit and explain and help figure things out.
not haunted
never made it to the haunted houses this halloween season. will have to make do with my memories of fright farm.
boys and leaves
fallen leaves + sunshine + boys + rakes + a sloping yard = lots of fun memories and laughs

civil war century
opted for the 75-mile option this year -- that's the 100-mile route with the 9-mile bailout back to the start at mile 66. boy, that's the hardest physical challenge I've ever done. harder than swimming across a raging whitewater river in WV in march in the snow? yes. harder than climbing the rocks at great falls on a 90-degree day? yes. harder than running across stockholm with two fully loaded packs when your boat is about to leave port? definitely.
need a good bum workout? try biking uphill for 8 hours. I rode from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and managed to average 10 mph, but I was going 3-5 mph uphill and nearly 40 mph downhill (mainly because the roads were wet and my brakes were pretty useless). the 100-mile route is much different (HILLY) than the half-century route I rode last year. I only heard a few jabs from other riders about my antiquated bike. mostly people were amazed I would chose to take on the challenge. and hey, it worked beautifully -- no flats, no chain drops -- just go go go.
sea gull century
under the weather. broken down shuttle. not much fun.
W&OD
rode from falls church to purcellville and back on a training ride. the western end of the path is very scenic.

joy rides
never pictured myself piloting a tandem bike, but what fun! tuesday mornings with joy are always an adventure. from me convincing us we're lost, only to see my car in the driveway at the top of the hill, to figuring out that all braking power has been turned over to me. next step, transport the bike to a path and go.
smokies
fun roadtrip with mom to the smoky mountains. scouted out some great spots for wildflowering in the spring.
